Ana: Good afternoon, everyone. Thanks for joining today's meeting. As you know, we're here to discuss potential challenges and refine our study goals for redesigning Netflix, focusing on new features like Watch Together mode, IMDb ratings, font size setting, user reviews, personalized playlists, and artist profiles. Let's start with discussing potential challenges. Andrea, could you share your thoughts on user diversity?

Andrea: Sure, Ana. One major challenge is that Netflix has a very diverse user base. People have different preferences, ages, and tech proficiency levels. This means that while some users may find new features exciting, others might find them confusing or unnecessary.

Ana: That's a great point, Andrea. We need to ensure our redesign caters to both tech-savvy users and those who are less comfortable with technology. Andrei, what is your opinion about this?

Andrei: I agree, Ana. Existing platform limitations could be a significant challenge. For example, integrating IMDb ratings and Watch Together mode might require complex changes. We need to understand these constraints better.

Ana: Marco, how about data privacy concerns?

Marco: Data privacy is a big issue. With features like Watch Together mode, we need to ensure that user data, such as viewing habits and chat logs, is protected. Implementing security features like authentication code/end-to-end encryption is a must.

Ana: Very true, Marco. Protecting user data is important. Lastly, let's talk about integration. Andrea, what are your thoughts on integrating these new features without overwhelming users?

Andrea: Seamless integration is crucial. If we add too many new features at once, users might feel overwhelmed. We should focus on intuitive design and perhaps roll out features gradually, ensuring each one is well-tested and user-friendly.

Ana: Great insights, Andrea. Let's move on to refining our study goals. One of our main objectives is to identify specific UI elements that cause confusion or frustration. Andrei, how do you think we should approach this?

Andrei: We should start by gathering user feedback through online survey via google form. This will help us pinpoint the exact areas where users face difficulties. Additionally, analyzing user behavior data can provide insights into commonly encountered issues.

Ana: Good idea. Next, we need to focus on improving the most frequently used features and ensuring the new features are intuitive and accessible. Marco, what do you suggest?

Marco: I think we should prioritize features like the filtering/search function, and recommendations. For new features, we can add these ideas to the survey questions to ensure that people are interested in using these new features.

Ana: Absolutely, people's opinion matter for the betterment of this app. We also need to gather data on the overall visual appeal and ease of navigation. Andrea, how should we go about this?

Andrea: We can compare the old interface to the new design and see which one the users prefer. Additionally, it can help us understand if the users are able to navigate the interface and identify any design elements that need revisions.

Ana: Great suggestions, Andrea. Finally, we need to ensure accessibility features are effective and comprehensive. Andrei, how can we achieve this?

Andrei: We should also ask users who have senior citizen relatives to help us ensure that our design is inclusive and accessible to everyone. We can also add feature like voice assistant.

Ana: Excellent, Andrei. To summarize, we'll focus on identifying confusing UI elements, improving frequently used features, gathering data on visual appeal and navigation, and ensuring comprehensive accessibility. Any final thoughts or suggestions?

Marco: Just to emphasize, it's important to keep user feedback at the center of our redesign process.

Ana: Agreed. Thank you all for your valuable input. Let's move forward with these refined goals and address the challenges we've discussed. Let's do our best to improve users' experience with the best of our effort. Thanks again, everyone!

C. Data Gathering Techniques

    Online Survey Questionnaires:
  • Usage: Collect quantitative data on user opinion with the new features and overall UI via Google Form
  • Plan: Use a mix of checkboxes, multiple-choice, and open-ended questions.
  • Triangulation: Compare pre-questionnaire results with the post-survey feedback data

D. Informed Consent

An informed consent form will be used to ensure users are aware of the study's purpose, data usage, and their rights, including the right to withdraw at any time.

E. Detailed Data Gathering

F. Carrying Out the Study

Questionnaires: Distribute to 25 users, analyze responses after two days.

Comparison: Conduct the post-survey and analyze the collected data with the pre-survey. Post-survey is answered after launching the new interface and seen by the previous respondents.

G. Reflection
  • Group Discussion: Provided valuable insights but some ideas need refining for clarity.
  • Questionnaires: Provided good quantitative data, but some questions were too broad.
  • Comparison: Revealed key usability issues, but more users’ opinion would be beneficial.
Future Improvements:
  • Expand Sample Size: Increase the number of participants for more comprehensive data.
  • Refine Tools: Enhance interview and questionnaire design.
  • Observation: Implement few changes and conduct further comparison to continuously improve the app.
